Waling Waling as the Philippines 2nd national flower

The Waling-waling (Euanthe sanderiana), is being considered in Congress as the second national flower of the Philippines, after Sampaguita. The orchid is endemic to Mindanao, particularly in Davao, Cotabato, and Zamboanga, and was first discovered back in 1882, while the Sampaguita is native to India and Arabia.

In October 2012, Sen. Loren Legarda filed Senate Bill 3307, or An Act Declaring the Waling-Waling Orchid as National Flower of the Philippines in Addition to Sampaguita as Declared in Proclamation No. 652 Dated 01 February 1934 by Governor-General Frank Murphy.
