The government will not extend aid to 52 Filipinos currently jailed in China for allegedly transporting illegal drugs to the country, Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) chairman Vicente "Tito" Sotto III said.
Sotto said he received specific order from President Arroyo to investigate the cases of the Filipinos and exhaust all means to prevent similar incidents abroad, but not to help the arrested Filipinos, who were mostly women, two of whom were even pregnant.
The President made it clear that as far as Filipinos ar
rested in drug trafficking cases abroad are concerned, they can't expect help from the government. And I can tell that she is firm on this decision," Sotto told reporters during a press conference in Quezon City.
The DDB chairman explained that the administration of President Arroyo is really strict when it comes to the fight ag
ainst dangerous drugs.
"You see the government can help those overseas Filipinos who commit personal crimes.. but in drug cases, we kno
w that these are syndicates so we really can't tolerate them," Sotto stressed.
A Good decision from our President
